Why did American soldiers tie fishing hooks to grenades?

Kind of wondering where American soldiers in the European theater got fish hooks for one, and I'm trying to picture throwing a grenade covered with fish hooks.

Great fishing tip, put hooks on grenade, pull pin, throw in lake, the fish literally fly at you, easiest catch ever. My uncle Billy Buck taught me this. He died doing what he loved best -- fishing. Very important, do NOT change the order of the above steps and DON'T get distracted between steps.

Great idea - also helps if someone tries to throw one back. I used to know a professional fisherman who would attach fish hooks to the buoy ropes of his crab traps to punish people stealing his crabs.

I have to admit I find this video rather dubious. 1/Where did all these fish hooks come from, 2/ If you have a grenade covered in fish hooks just how do you carry it without the fish hooks snagging your clothes or webbing 3/ Exactly how would you hold a grenade to throw it if it was covered in fishhooks. I love history and ww2, I must have seen hundreds if not thousands of videos and stills but have never seen this any with the fish hook modification

Is that true ? All a grenade has to do with a fish hook is catch on you before it's released .I don't know if I'm buying this one

They also used heavy grease from the tanks to coat the hand grenade so they would stick to the chicken wire that the Germans put over the windows
