Yes, this IS my reality this year. I am disabled in a wheelchair. I had a benefit taken away so am rock bottom. Your suggestions are a good starting point. Just curious if your Dollar Tree has boxes and carts full of stock not shelved yet, sitting in the isles. It is a huge problem for me to have my son push my wheelchair around the boxes or forgoing an isle altogether due to inaccessability. Management isn't too concerned about it as they are so incredibly understaffed. This is in Appleton, WI. Thank you for the nonjudgmental videos you create. I already feel bad enough. ❤

Thank you for sharing this video with us. I was waiting for you to make it. You showed us that even for a lot of people it is hard to have a turkey or a ham for the holidays, we can always have a really nice and descent meal. You are the best.

Youre videos are great and very helpful. I was unemployed for a very long time before and during the pandemic... our budget was very tight and sometimes very realistic to the amounts you show. I found myself in a tight bind with only $30 - 50 to spend on food for the 2 of us plus pets....

If you can’t find eggs or butter for a baking mix, the eggs can be replaced with a cornstarch and water slurry, and the butter can be replaced with a neutral oil. As a bonus, these replacements are shelf-stable.

Really appreciate your combination of imaginative and realistic approach to meal preparation on a budget.

I think I would skip the meat all together and make stuffing using a loaf of bread and pick up a gravy packet 😋

You can sometimes use mayo instead of eggs dor desserts

I think you did a great job! Actually quite a feast with only $20. I happen to like Spam just fried - doesn't need a sauce for me, but I appreciate you trying to make it more traditional. And I've never thought of trying to keep it all stove top. Gotta try the cookies that way!! Thank you!!

Applesauce is a great substitute for eggs in baking. I would've got the sliced ham and wrapped the spam in it and baked it and made the glaze from the pineapple and honey to give it a bit more flavor but overall this was awesome. Thanks for sharing.

For the spam, i would fry it, but use white or brown gravy for it. Likely the combo of honey and pineapple gave it the weird flavor. Even with items at $1.25, People can stock up on items ahead of time and augment what they have with DT items. Still a VERY good meal. A tinned ham at Dollar General for $4.50 would be perfect for this. GREAT IDEAS!

Looks delicious! I love how you include even the fails and suggest other options. I appreciate knowing what not to try! I would never have thought to make biscuits or cookies in a frying pan but both of those looked so good. You mentioned the cookies were your favorite, but did the biscuits taste as good as they looked?

For the super salty ham, boil it in water for 5 - 15 minutes, then drain it and cook how you normally would. I always find ham way too salty & as a kid we were broke broke and often had to rely on food banks, giveaways, or buying whatever was cheap whether we liked it or not. One day I had the idea to boil the ham and it worked. You might need to pat it dry after the boil, but it works.

You can substitute eggs just use applesauce the unsweetened kind and for milk you can use the can milk like the evaporated milk that's what I do because I can't ever seem to find eggs or they're either broken or whatever and can't afford it along with the milk milk doesn't seem to last very long but if you get the can version like evaporated milk you can use that in mashed potatoes mac and cheese anything you need milk for except for cereal I would not recommend it for cereal and that that applesauce I think you can get a big jar of it for like a dollar or two and I think Dollar tree actually has some

Thank you for the heads up on the spam. I generally just eat it with mustard and bread not toasted so I need to try the one I just got at Dollar Tree to make sure it's not awkwardly eww 😆 I miss the slices of it you can get there hopefully they'll come back

Good job, funny you made carrots if you don't like carrots. Maybe you could put them in the oven or hot air fryer and roast them? Happy Thanksgiving!

Also, try replacing the eggs with vegan eggs when you want to bake a dessert but the store is out of eggs. For example, 1 tbsp flaxseeds ground up and mixed with 2.5 tbsp water is equal to 1 eggs and it's great in bakes. Mashed up banana or applesauce can also replace eggs quite nicely. To make cakes really soft, mix 2.5 tbsp apple cider vinegar with 1tsp baking powder and add to the mix.
