'Don't panic:' Ukrainian president addresses nation on possible conflict with Russia

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Wednesday urged Ukrainians to "not panic" amid ongoing media discussion of potential military conflict with Russia.

Addressing the nation in a video released by the presidential press office, Zelenskiy also said Ukraine wanted its partners to be more specific in their reaction to war threat.

“It is more important what the world would do, not theoretical ‘they will pay the price’ – but announcing the specific sanctions, specific measures the world is ready to introduce,” he said.

Russian officials have denied planning an attack, but the Kremlin has massed troops near Ukraine's borders. The West says a build-up could be preparation for a war to prevent Ukraine from ever joining the NATO security alliance.

I was 9 years old when I had to run away from my home due to Serbian aggression in the Yugoslavian war, and my memories of war are extremelly vivid, engraved into my brain and my whole being. War is something that is incomprehensible for a person who never lived to see a war with his own eyes. It is terrifying. I hope Russia will not be so stupid to start a war that will benefit absolutelly no one. Many innocent people would die. But I'm guessing that's not something politicians are thinking about anyways.
