I finally put my finger on it. The reason why films don't scare me anymore is because that while they're filmed to look like works of art cinematically, the perspective doesn't feel part of the world. In Alien, I felt grounded with the camera and the elements in the scene. It felt like you could be there...though cinematically. Everything now feels too perfect. Even watching the panning of the ship... beautiful... but doesn't feel real. Like that scene 0:45 ... not scary at all; great animation, but doesn't feel like a real world.
