You’re Wrong about Algerian Olympic Boxer Imane Khelif (and so is she)

There’s a lot of shouting about this from people who don’t know what they’re talking about. I think I have a handle on it. I discuss what’s going on with Imane Khelif and Lin Yu Ting, what’s unfair, what would be fair, and what people from both sides are getting wrong.

I'm from algeria the country of the heroine Imane Khelif, and we know her story in detail. In short, she is a women grew up in small village, and in very conservative environment, where they never heard or discussed transgender issues.Quite simply, this boxer's strength and agility are due to her difficult life. She sold bread and plastic bags on the streets to pay for her training. In fact, it's a story of a struggling woman that deserves to be a movie.

Iman Khalif is a boxer. She lived a difficult childhood and harsh circumstances. Her dream was boxing. She worked as a young girl as a bread seller, and she collected plastic and metals such as iron and copper to save the costs of transportation to the training hall, which is more than 11 km away from her residence. She trained seriously and with determination despite her family’s rejection of the subject as a girl because she is from a conservative family and defies all difficulties to continue. Her dream is to go to the Paris Olympics to face obstacles and lies that challenge her gender. Trump did not find a topic for his election campaign except Iman Khalif to attack her in order to win over the masses, and Elon Musk also attacked her on Twitter with his tweet in order to show his rejection of homosexuality and transgender people. Iman is not the daughter of a wealthy person like Trump or Elon Musk, who despite everything With his money and wealth, he could not protect his son, who did not accept his gender as a man

Most women basketball players look masculine but no one blinks and eye but I bet you if one of those women basketball players went into boxing suddenly their men.

BTW, I come from that developing country. We attend college in Algeria for free, and the graduation rate is high. And we have people with higher education leveI in rural areas. I myself graduated with a PhD and now work at an international company. I learned about the medical conditions you're discussing when I was in elementary school through books. I suggest you update your knowledge about developing countries. They are not primitive. No evidence has been provided, and any claims should be supported by additional tests.

BTW Umar Kremlev, the President of the IBA and a convicted felon with a history of extortion and battery, refused in 2023 to submit a report indicating that Khelif had failed a gender test. Despite his assertion that the tests were conducted by medical professionals, no evidence has been provided to confirm that Khelif has XY chromosomes or elevated levels of testosterone. When Khelif's coach requested the results, Kremlev stated he could not release the medical records due to the inclusion of personal and genetic information. It is important to note that Khelif remains eligible for all other boxing competitions, including the Olympics. We’ll have to wait and see what happens once she starts legal action.

This didn‘t age well….Khelif is a man with a DSD, XY Karyotype who got tested twice and banned from female boxing by two world boxing organizations.
He is being treated by his male Muslim coaches not as a Muslima, being carried on their shoulders.

Trust your eyes, people….

Thank you for addressing complexity with intelligence, nuance and sensibility. Instead of the usual simplistic, Manichean, binary arguments we are exposed to so much. You've contributed to answer essential questions that no one (on either "side") ever bothers to address (and it drives me nuts). Much needed discussion and information 🙏🏻

Most of you have never watched women’s combat sports or any women’s sports and it really shows in these comments. Imane is nothing special in terms of hit power and is not harmful as a boxer. Watch women’s UFC and rugby and report back.

A little background history, concerning the disqualification of Imane Khelif...
The IBA (which has earned, over the years, a reputation of corruption and manipulating the results of international competitions) has been run by presidents from Russia and Uzbekistan.
The "ruling" occurred only after Imane Khelif had gone through virtually the entire competition of the 2023 Women's World Championship, in which she defeated, the previously undefeated, Russian boxer Azalia Amineva.
Khelif also defeated Navbakhor Khamidova from Uzbekistan. Based on this arbitrary ruling the IBA stripped Khelif of those two victories.

But this is just a coincidence and has of course absolutely nothing at all to do with the fact that the IBA is run by presidents from Russia and Uzbekistan, and that Khelif defeated the unbeaten Russian champion and the athlete from Uzbekistan. Not to mention the fact that the IBA moved the goal-posts by changing the rules in "mid-competion", after Khelif's two victories.

Next was that the Russian president of the IBA, Umar Nazarovich Kremlev (who was, btw., put into this position by Vladimir Putin himself) claimed in the Russian media that DNA tests by the IBA had proven that Khelif had XY chromosomes.
But fact is, that this is a claim that has never been officially confirmed by the IBA. Nor did the IBA made any test results public. It is just a claim made by Kremlev in the Russian state media.
Kremlev also claimed that they have found that Khelif had high testosterone levels.
...<<<A claim that turned out to be false. Because the IBA admitted, on July 31st 2024, in a official statement that:[quote] "The athletes did not undergo a testosterone examination."[end of the quote]>>>....

And this is how the story, that Imane Khelif is a man or a trans woman began....

So, if you seriously believe that this was just a coincidence.... you should know that I've a nice Parisian bridge to sell. 😁

I just saw online where Nigerian female fighter, Cynthia Ogunsemilore, was suspended for doping. If the IOC not running tests, how did they know she was doping?

Thank you for speaking on this topic and getting into the nuance of the different views and opinions that surround this issue. Very informative and rounded discussion that explores the many sides of the science, culture, and gender of the human beings involved. 🙏🏻

Amazing video! I wasn’t sure what to expect when I clicked on the video, but I agree 100%. I was aware of the DSD info and all the other info you presented and you did a really great job! I definitely subscribed.
Edit: Good job including the story about the CAIS athlete. I’ve seen her story shared around a bit the last few days.

No! children are not all androgynous. The ovaries start producing estrogen shortly after birth and the testicles start producing testosterone just as early, the level of male and female hormones gradually increases until it peaks at puberty, as a result there are such differences in facial features, the depth of voice etc. most times you can tell if a toddler is a male or a female and it has nothing to do with how they're dressed.. You're generalising people in her country do not know so much about DSD?!! Arab doctors are often very well educated, well read and updated on the latest scientific developments, cultural taboos is a different issue. When you read Imane in french it's pronounced Eman and that is the correct pronunciation in arabic. I have seen a couple of videos of people who were very objective in their analysis and explored the story from all perspectives without any scientific inaccuracies or racist undertones, for example search a video titled " the Olympic boxer situation is wild" or Kyle on secular talk.

Third league sounds cool in theory, I have also considered that . The only concern about a third league would be ramifications for those identified as qualifying for it from their countries that may not accept and/or recognize it. Seems like we would need better education/acceptance first, which could be challenging in the various cultural and political climates. Great discussion overall though, you capture both sides well and it’s nice to hear a more level-headed evaluation. This also makes me think about the more ambiguous hormone levels/genetic variances that aren’t diagnosed as conditions (or maybe even detected at all) that exist in the world that give some people more advantage in sports over others (not that I’m suggesting we consider those for the “rules” too but it is interesting to think about!). Back to the Olympics though- How can we standardize/classify athletes better when there are so many factors to consider? How can we be less reactive as a whole and take a more unified approach that respects all who qualify to compete? Hopefully there will be a positive change gained from all of this.
