What The Hell Is Happening To Jack Grealish?

Manchester City made Jack Grealish the most expensive player in the history of the premier league, but the return on the pitch so far has been poor. Grealish has been constantly injured and unable to show all his talent on the pitch. To add insult to injury, he’s been making headlines for his off-field antics. What the hell happened to Jack Grealish?

Pep normally leaves players on the bench or it takes them a season to start playing brilliant consistently so I wouldn't worry this pep football is the most hardest system to play in

Speaking as a Villa fan - the entire system at Villa was built around giving him the ball deep into our half and letting him carry it forward, and then making the right runs to open up space and passing lanes. At City, he's just a cog in a system that doesn't allow him to carry the ball all that much (his biggest strength) and he is constantly facing two lines of defence. He will come good once he adapts but I don't think Pep will ever get the "best" out him because the system just isn't to his strengths. If he'd gone to Liverpool or even Chelsea he'd have absolutely torn it up I'm sure.

This is premature. It will take a while for Grealish to understand & fit into peps team. You do remember Mahrez struggled too. Most of their players took a whole season to hit form or even regularly play.

He just needs time, I’ll bet that he will show his best this or next season. Just like we saw with Mahrez and Silva and Cancelo

He doesn't score much like before it doesn't mean he is not playing well.

I don't think Jack Grealish was ever a goal more of a playmaker

Pep usually gives his players the silent treatment, some players comes out of it stronger, some don't. The players has to make their desicions whether they wanna be a part of a certain style that City plays or not.

I vividly remember when he was signed some people were saying Rip Mahrez and Rip Sterling

He was an above average, ENGLISH, player...therefore, he was "WORLD CLASS", the "Best ever!!" The Hype of English players before they've shown enough to deserve it is beyond comprehension

Two words:

ENGLISH they will portray a good player to be exceptional and will make them seem more than what they worth. As a city fan he still needs to prove himself but English media is partially to blame

He still leads the PL with most progressive passes and #4 at most xA/90 and these are one of the most important stats for a creator like him. It's just people who doesn't watch city thinks he has been a flop because of lack of goals and assist

Coutinho got the same stats as him in 5 games at Villa. I think Villa got the best out of this deal £100m for a 26 year old who has a history of ill discipline off the field that has been covered up by the club for years - You/We only no what the papers tell us but trust me there has been many other issues off the field around his social life that was kept in house by Dean Smith & Steve Bruce. At Villa he was loved by everyone from the fans his fellow pros to the canteen staff, but at Man City he is just a payroll number.

Jack is injury prone, but he is a great player with exceptional skills. City will gain from his being there.

"A 25 year old Grealish is better than a 34 year old Messi."

"best" coach in the world.

in aston villa hes the main and best player
in city he is not and usually in city 1st season most players struggled a lot
and improved next season i think same will happen to him

City never needed grealish they need a massive fan base and recognition that's why they always wanted a poster boy like grealish, messi or Ronaldo. Although I personally believe he is good player but overrated like any other english player.

Honestly I don't think he's been *that* bad. If you look at the xG and xA charts, he's far underperforming both of them, according to understat.
He's been getting an average of around 0.52 xG/A per 90, which is about on par with/not much lower than what he put up at villa last season (0.59). It's also more than Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Emile Smith Rowe, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, on par with Bukayo Saka, and not far behind Bruno Fernandes, Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen.
Now it's fun to pretend that he's an underperforming flop, and to be honest I don't think he was worth anywhere near the 100m he cost (that's English hype for you) but he's not doing worse than he did at Villa.

I agree with the comments here. Everyone made valid points.

But for me, it seems like UK loves to overhype their players. Same with has happened with Rashford, Grealish, Maguire and the list goes on and on.

Grealish should have stayed at Aston Villa and developed his carrier there instead of going to man city

He wouldn’t seem like a flop if they hadn’t spent an absurd amount of money. He’s not worth the price they paid for him. He’s a 30-40 mil kind of player not 100mil. He’s struggling but it’s not entirely his fault, the absurd price tag doesn’t help
