for backpacker and minim budget..try to go to "terminal 21" in foodcourt. the food price is really cheapp !!!
$2, you can get : 1. 4 steamed bun (small size-pork/chicken), 2. meatball soup 3. mineral water.

I lived in Bangkok as a child, it is still my official home.... A must see in November, Loi Krathong!! Stunningly beautiful!

i live here in bangkok,  and my advice is :

1. don't come during raining season (same time as the fall for the northern hemisphere). It will rain every day and is no fun.
2. since the food is quite cheap, try everything (sea food is good)
3. go to china town (called yaowaraj) they have a lot of street food and is just interesting.
