The Simple Reason You CAN Pronounce Porsche The English Way [VLOG]

The debate on whether you should say Porsche or Porsch'a has been raging for years.. I point out a really simple reason that means it's absolutely fine to pronounce it in the English way.

The key difference between Porsche and the others is that Porsche is a man’s name. If you went to a country where people found Jick easier to say than Jack, would that mean your name was Jick…?

I think you could make a one hour video on how to pronounce Renault, Peugeot and Citroën. My daughter at the age of five, used to talk about mummy's Shitron, which perfectly described the BX that she owned back then!

My Italian wife always laughs when she hears an English person pronounce Lancia as "Lan-see-ah", when in Ialian it is the ci sound is pronounced ch: so it sounds like "Lancha". But I wouldn't use the Italian pronunciation when speaking English, as it would sound a bit strange. Anyway, we've sold her Lancia, so the problem likely won't arise again.

I'm danish. We say BMW like the germans do (except we use the danish pronounciation of "v", which sound similar to the german "w", only it's a shorter sound in Denmark), and "Volkswagen with the weird german v that is pronounced like a f" like the germans do too. ..or use the danish version, which is "folkevogn" (folk = people, vogn = car/wagon) ..and yes, we also know how to pronounce Porsche. ..but you are correct in saying that it is a bit weird for english speaking people who pronounce most german car names wrong, to insist on this one brand being said the correct way. You guys could just as easily carry on being wrong about almost all of them. It'd be more consistent :)

Hi I am 71 and gave longed to own one since my early 20s I was addicted to sports racing GT cars, in particular the 917. So much race commentary referred to Porsche with the E.
In recent years it has been called Porsch.
Even Ian Tyrell in the YouTube piece I’m watching has just pronounced it both ways. Call it what you like, just worship the brilliant engineering, design and fun. Thank you Ferdinand & Ferry. Good to air this awkward subject. Thank goodness people care.

Thank you for creating this video. I'm Japanese (born & raised there) and majority of people pronounce Japanese car manufacturer names wrong. Do anyone correct those? No. Do I care? Of course not. It's pretty sad & pathetic that people pick on others online for the smallest of things.

Names are pronounced differently everywhere. Languages are translated and variations adopted all the time becoming common tongue to different cultures. For example, Mazda was founded by Jujiro Matsuda in 1920. As a result, it is no surprise that the Japanese pronunciation of Mazda is “Matsuda.” But, the name “Mazda” was inspired by the god of light and wisdom, Ahura Mazda. The literal meaning of the name Ahura Mazda is “might” (ahura), “wisdom” (mazda)..

Great video...haha! When I discuss my Porsche, we really don't get bogged down in that debate. It's either the Porsch....Porscha....or the 'yellow fellow'...haha!
What I do know for sure....is regardless of the pronunciation....my wife will 'silently' roll her eyes, if the discussion is centered around the car too long!! End of story!! haha

I had a (much older) German client that had a beautiful 356 in his garage. He told me how when he was younger he dated Ferdinand's grand-daughter back in the 50s I think it was. He pronounced it 'properly' but, then again, he was German after all.

Hey Jack. Great content on your channel. Never tempted to comment before but in this case whilst you certainly have a good point I think for consistency you therefore should start pronouncing your Italian names/words as an Englishman would! Just to keep your logic tight and sound! 😊

Porscha sounds even dafter with my Welsh accent 🤣
