Eye shadow color is wrong because I used an incorrect reference pic where for some reason the eye shadow was red instead of blue-ish. 😭 Sorry!

The main reason why Lucifer wasn't really there during Charlie's upbringing was due to his depression after he and Lilith split ways and Charlie being looked after Lilith for some time before choosing to stay and Hell and start up the Rehabilitation. Charlie was more so leaving her dad alone than really Lucifer not being there for her because while he could. Charlie would most likely feel terrible for having him go through his depression while taking care of Charlie and helping her with the Hotel.

This thing about Lucifer's parenting reminds me a lot of Loona's speech to Via in "Seeing Stars"
"Everbody's got issues, especially dads, and sometimes they fuck up, well... All the time, that doesn't mean they don't care [...] Look, try to cut your dad some slack, he may not always get it right, but... He's trying, that's more important than you think"

I think that when Lucifer says “my daughter wants to see me!” Shows us how much he cares about her and that’s what makes a dad be a good dad.

7 years away from her compared to the who knows how many THOUSANDS of years in which he was there and raised her with love.
Anyway, he's really trying his best to make up for that lost time with her, he acknowledges that it was wrong and really shows that he loves her and cares, he's a sweetheart.
(There's a canonical photo of their family in which Charlie looks just like the Charlie we see in the show, he really was there her entire life except for those 7 years that her mother was away too).

You raise a very good point. I wouldn't be surprised if Lucifer did regret what he did. I can easily see how Lilith could guilt him into believing that he wasn't worth Charlie, and she put a distance between them.

He's definitely a good dad. You can see in the flashback that he's so excited to share his work with Charlie, only to look sad when Lilith takes her away. I think he was mostly absent because he wasn't sure if he was wanted and he was too afraid of rejection to reach out (kinda like how he clearly wanted to go and visit Charlie, but only let himself get excited after she invited him). When you think about his story, a crippling fear of rejection absolutely makes sense, and then when Charlie does reach out, he becomes afraid of HER getting rejected by heaven. He only wants what's best for her, and I think the reason he wasn't always there was because he didn't think that /he/ was what was best for her

I 100% agree, because all of his dialogue suggests that he has been DYING to be with her and support her, but has felt that he can't in some way. He was shocked when she called him first, he's ecstatic when he got invited to see her, and their entire ballad is them singing about how they've longed to have a proper father daughter relationship with each other.

Charlie doesn't even dispute this when he says that's what he desires. There's no "but you actively cast me out or abandoned me" it's just a sense that they got separated and both didn't feel like they had a right to approach the other for the longest time.

Edit : also, somebody pointed out that Lucifer has ADHD vibes! He seems to forget about everything but his duckies, forgets what's happening with his daughter and fails to call, but as soon as he's with her, he gives her 110% of himself

He's a good dad. He's just trying his best. He has issues. Like everyone does. He loves his daughter. He felt like he was in the way. He supports his daughter no matter what. I love Lucifer 🥰

I think he is a good dad, because my relationship with my dad is very similar to theirs. My dad wasn’t around for 7 years starting from 1 week before my 1st birthday. 7 years it was only my mom, but he came back. I’ve been seeing him for years now and he is a very good dad, even if he wasn’t there before. He supports me like Lucifer supports Charlie, so I do think both Lucifer and my dad are good dads😘

As someone with daddy issues that expanded into abandonment issues, Lucifer is not the best dad but he is a good dad. When first hearing about their relationship from Charlie I noticed a lot of parallels with my own issues, but as soon as she called him those parallels stopped. He’s caring and considerate towards Charlie and really seems to be trying for her. I can’t wait to see how their relationship develops as they get to know each other more :)

In pilot Charlie says something like "dad was right about me" while sending the voice message to Lilith. And in the end he supported her dreams and did his best to protect her, especially in the last episode of season. I'm sure that Lilith lied to Charlie about Lucifer.
