Repairing Parts for 2000HP Engine! | Machining & Liquid Nitrogen

Показать описание
We need to repair a pallet of parts for a 2000HP Caterpillar 3516 Diesel Engine. These are some of the exhaust components from the engine that came out of a CAT 789 Haul Truck. The parts are made from cast iron and over time they have worn out. We show the step by step process to repair the exhaust parts including machining in the lathe, boring in the milling machine and shrink fitting new sleeves using Liquid Nitrogen. We're going to give those sleeves a 0.2mm (8 thou) tight interference fit because we definitely don't want them getting out and into the engine!

In this video we are using:
- Hafco TM-1740G Centre Lathe
- Hafco TM-26120G Centre Lathe
- Hafco BM-63VE Milling machine

Shrink fitting with liquid nitrogen is always good fun, makes up for having to machine all these cast iron parts 😅👎 Hope you enjoy the video!

At 77 years old, I remember as an 8 year old I spent a lot of time across the road from my father’s business watching a real blacksmith in a country town. I get the same enjoyment watching your work. Thanks.

Shout out to Mr and Mrs CEE. There’s no other YouTube channel showing such high level machining content. This is a rare insight into a heavy machinery job shop.

I enjoy the “intros” where you explain how the parts fit in the machines, and then the how and why you’ve chosen a particular repair method. Then it makes much more sense when you do the actual repairs.

I had the pleasure of working with the welders and other professional shipbuilders in the 1980’s as a US Naval submariner. As the first crew to go to sea on the Trident class we all took great pride in our work. I would have been proud to have you work beside us my friend. I enjoy watching your work on every piece of gear you touch! Cheers Mate!

Every video I hear what the issue is and i think "Wow that sounds so specific, that can't have happened much." But like this one, you not only know how to fix it but you have done it before. The wealth of knowledge you all have is very impressive. Great video as always!

Mechanical engineer here... I enjoy your practical machining ingenuity a lot! What you do and show here on youtube is a form or art and a huge display of competence! Having daily changing train wrecks thrown at you and just dealing with them.

My insomnia has been in overdrive lately but I have been working through older CEE videos and rewatching more recent ones and for some reason metal work and welding noises have been a huge help in turning off my brain to let me sleep. The only problem is I love watching the videos so much that sometimes I get caught up in watching and it keeps me awake :)

I love this channel so much and I'm so happy to have discovered it.

I think you are definitely a great person to do business with. Your customers are lucky to have such a great machinest in your area. From your background working on machinery, you actually know what you need to make a repair work. Great job making the video Karen and great job with the repairs Kirtis.

I agree with your thoughts on cast iron, dirty stuff. The reason I enjoy your channel is because I used to so exactly what you're doing for many years. Keep on smiling.

The sheer amount of wear and tear these parts experience is pretty nuts. The enginuity of the human mind is amazing, but to be able to fix these components is even more incredible. Love the attention to detail and care in the small things. Once again thank you for sharing with us weekly and keep up the good work. I wouldn't be surprised if an engine came in next :

Kurtis. Karen sure makes you sound great at the beginning of every episode. She's a pro editing.
I like the way you explain what you are working on and where the parts go and why the parts go bad, then show how you are going to fix them.
Congratulations on the half a million people who love watching you and Karen and Homeless/Homie.

Does my head in as a non hands on the tools guy, is how fine tolerances can be created as a matter of course. It is amazing how fine things can be made up without any 'special' gear. Although do appreciate that the gear isn't cheap, and the skill required to drive it isn't cheap either!

This channel is perfect. We get an explanation of the problem, and the solution. Then we see every step to implement it.

Also we get to play with the dog.

You deserve a lot more than half a million viewers. Congrats on that milestone.
