For viewers of this channel, it should be no surprise that neutron stars are absolutely terrifying objects, with extremely powerful magnetic fields and some seriously strange properties.But up until now, scientists have never had a chance to map a neutron star in detail, let alone a pulsar, and the one that NICER (or Neutron star Interior Composition Explorer) has just produced is making them question the textbook definition of a pulsar’s surface.

26 km diameter, rotating 250 times per second. That puts the rotational speed of the surface at over 73 million km/h... which is almost as fast as my Honda WHEN VTEC KICKS IN YO!!! :P
