Just to summarize, the vice president's advice is this:

1. Buy an antiquated, low-capacity fire arm that kicks hard and give it to your wife
2. Fire off the only 2 rounds in the weapon without aiming the gun or ensuring where the rounds are going. (Not only is this action illegal, but the potential for pulling both triggers at once will inevitably knock your wife on her back)
3. The attackers will see you holding an empty, antiquated and low-capacity firearm that is difficult to reload under stress and flee the scene in horror.

I shot an AR for the first time in 15 years. I was amazed at the lack of recoil and how little the muzzle rose after each shot. I would feel much more confident handing an AR-15 to a novice shooter than a 12 gauge.
