Written while at the 2022 Brevard Music Institute, "Lost" uses the text from Sara Teasdale's poem "I Am Not Yours." This song focuses on romantic uncertainty, beginning with a hopeful love-dance. In the middle, the text becomes more yearning as the singer expresses their desires that are not being fulfilled. The piece ends with rejuvenated hope for the relationship as the love-dance returns.

A huge thank you to mezzo-soprano Jillian Lebel and pianist Ting-Ting Yang for premiering this piece.

Text:

I am not yours, not lost in you,
Not lost, although I long to be
Lost as a candle lit at noon,
Lost as a snowflake in the sea.

You love me, and I find you still
A spirit beautiful and bright,
Yet I am I, who long to be
Lost as a light is lost in light.

Oh plunge me deep in love—put out
My senses, leave me deaf and blind,
Swept by the tempest of your love,
A taper in a rushing wind.
