A Virginia woman is lucky to be alive after unknowingly playing with an octopus that could have killed her with just one bite. Kaylin Phillips had no idea the creature she and her friends were passing around on a beach in Bali was a venomous blue-ringed octopus. When she posted a picture on her Instagram story, several people responded telling her what it was. She looked it up online and discovered the animal has enough venom to kill more than 20 people. #InsideEdition

“My initial reaction was to just pick it up.” That should never be anyone’s reaction with ANY wild animal. It was trying to get away, she could’ve easily died.

"My first reaction was to pick it up." Pretty sure Darwin has a theory about this.

She is lucky that his eight brains picked up on the fact that she was admiring him, and not threatening to him.

"Just don't pick up everything you see."

You'd think this is a rule people would learn in pre-school.

When I feel dumb, I'll just come back here and watch this.

Girl: "No, don't say that"
Octopus: "wise choice. I shall spare thine life, for now...”

"My first instinct was to pick it up." Remind me not to ever go camping with you.

This girl just saved the person in the background who was saying "let's eat it"

Here's a rule of thumb when dealing with the wilderness: if it is colorful or makes you feel compelled to touch it *do not* touch it. Many weaker prey often have this as a defense against predators.

She was so kind to the blue ring octopus that not only it didn't bite her, but it also sent her a portrait of itself! 0:20

I bet that Octopus when put back in the sea was all like "She was so kind. She's going on my 'No bite' list."

I love how she now has a painting of a blue ringed octopus in her home, maybe to commemorate an event that literally could've killed her

She clearly didn't watch enough nature documentaries. This octopus is pretty commonly known for being so deadly.
