Folkslore: Worry Dolls

Guatemalan worry dolls, or muñecas quitapenas, hold childrens' troubles while they sleep.

In this episode of Folkslore, Flor Peralta shares how she used worry dolls to get through the night when her mother left to the States. But was it the mythical dolls, that are said to originate from a Mayan princess with the ability to solve any human problem, or something else that helped Flor to sleep?

To everyone talking about the fat American children comment, I believe that in the context of this video she's kinda talking from her mindset when she was a kid. On another note she could be just saying that for the worry dolls to be so well made and to be gifted to someone who can't appreciate it like most children do when given a gift from a foreign country that not explicitly a toy, candy, or article of clothing. It's meant to show and elaborate on the ignorance of the American children from the perspective of a Guatamalan child who most likely only had known for American children to be certain ways from either tv, movies or stories.

I learned about the worry dolls back in elementary, about 14 years ago. My teacher gave me a bag full of worry dolls. To this day, I don't know what happened to them. 😢😢
