Don't Stake Your Tent Like This! #shorts

Don't stake your tent straight to the ground. Some guylines are intentionally placed to give you more room on the inside. Instead find a suitable stick to bring the tent wall out instead of down. And give yourself more room like you deserve.

I prefer to use them solely to trip myself when I’m taking a piss at 3 AM.

I've only pitched a tent 1000 times sub-optimally. It's so clear now, but I can't believe I'm only learning this now! Never seen it done. I bow!

I'm so glad I watched this. I don't know what I would of done without that 1 extra square inch of room

Using guyouts to pull out on the panels does work to add more space, but pulling outwards on DCF like this also causes permanent deformation and/or pinholes in the material because the pull is not in line with the fibers so it stretches the mylar. This is why most companies offering DCF tents don't include this type of guyout, or if they do they reinforce the diagonals on that panel (HMG).

Actually they're intentionally placed to provide increased stability in the wind

I can't believe I couldn't figure this out on my own. Thanks.

It's not for more room by design. It's an anti-condensation measure and for stability.

No one told me that I deserve more room!

Those sticks are solid, won't let you down, what could possibly go wrong?

Gives you more room, and strategically rolls any condensation towards the middle of the tent so it's not sloshing around in the corners....

When you’re gently informed and kindly reminded you deserve better than you thought you did, that’s a gentleman right there.
