ADHD is a mental illness that affects someones attention, activity and impulse control.
It mainly affects behavior, not mood.
ADHD symptoms are ongoing rather than occurring in episodes like Bipolar disorder
SHARED SYMPTOMS
Bipolar disorder and ADHD share some similar symptoms, especially in relation to manic episodes.
Someone who has bipolar disorder, manic episodes cause them to feel confident, happen and have excessive energy
During a manic episode a person might
MANIC EPISODES
Move about a lot
Talk loudly, quickly or a lot
Interrupt people
Be easily distracted
And act impulsively
Manic episodes are not a symptom of ADHD, but someone who suffers from ADHD may experience some of the symptoms we have just gone over.
While some symptoms are similar between ADHD and bipolar disorder, the causes of bipolar disorder and ADHD are different.
ADHD symptoms tend to be more consistent whilst Manic episode symptoms happen because of a mood state.
People think ADHD is just hyperactive or impulsive behaviors, this is true for some people but some adults and children have symptoms of inattentive which include
Trouble focusing
Daydreaming
Not listening when people talk or speak to them
Avoiding mental exertion
Loosing belonging frequently
Forgetting to complete tasks
And inattention to detail
These symptoms of inattentive ADHD are not typical symptoms of bipolar disorder.
Someone with bipolar disorder may also experience depressive episodes, which are episodes which may make them feel hopeless, have low energy, sad and withdraw socially.
Depressive episodes are not a symptom of ADHD but some people with ADHD may also experience depression.
