Lee Health’s Pharmacy Technician Training Program

Megha Patel was one of the first graduates of Lee Health’s Pharmacy Technician Training Program. “I was always interested in pharmacy. When I was going to college, I thought I might become a pharmacist at one point. That didn't plan out, and so when I heard about this program, I thought it would be a great way to get started and kind of learn,” said Patel.
Pharmacy technicians help support pharmacy services. “They work in a variety of roles to help us ensure that our medications are delivered safely and on time accurately. They work with patients to make sure that we have the most up-to-date information and that all throughout our hospitals and our community our pharmacies can operate smoothly,” said Pharmacy Manager Shelli Sadler.
The 16-week training program involves class time, lab time, and hands on training. “It's been really beneficial to our pharmacy programs to have individuals that are trained in our healthcare setting and at the end when they're able to get registered they come to us already with a lot of experience, both hands-on and educational, and they can jump right in. They already know our policies and procedures and expectations,” said Sadler.
Patel has been able to climb the technician ladder and continue to grow within Lee Health. “All the knowledge that I've gained in working in the hospital setting, I was able to use towards my current role in the tech field, which is where I help pharmacy develop software and build and improve upon workflows there,” said Patel.
