Bombay Blood Group, a blood type unfamiliar to many, is considered one of the rarest in the world. Only 1 in 10,000 people on the Indian subcontinent and 1 in 4 million people worldwide have the Bombay phenotype. Being such a rare blood type, it extends some challenges to people who possess it.

I am 44 years old, male. I have been donating my blood, since 1997, the year i reached 18 years. I think i have been able to save the lives of thousands of patients, as my blood type is o negative which can be given for any patient with any blood type. And i feel huge pleasure, when thinking of that.

Do they test for the H antigen if you donate blood or is this test not carried out? Am curious how many Bombay blood groups may be internationally labelled as O positive.
