Swans new album, The Beggar, will be released worldwide June 23, 2023 on Young God Records/Mute. Formats include 2X LP, 2CD, as well as download and stream.

“After numerous pandemic-induced cancellations of tours for the previous Swans album leaving meaning, and an apparent bottomless pit of waiting, waiting, waiting, and the strange disorientation that came with this sudden but interminable forced isolation I decided it was time to write songs for a new Swans album and forget about everything else. They came relatively easily, always informed by the suspicion that these could be my last. When I finally was able to travel, songs in hand, to Berlin to work with my friends recording this record, the feeling was akin to the moment in The Wizard of Oz when the film changes from Black and White to Color. Now I’m feeling quite optimistic. My favourite color is pink. I hope you enjoy the album!” – Michael Gira

Just realised, "Three" refers to how this is a sequel to the two previous The Body Lovers projects from 1998, the first of which was titled 'Number One Of Three'. So in a way this is completing a 25-year story arc.

33:24 This part of the song is beyond a doubt the most horrifying thing I have heard from Swans. It feels like dying. You know you are slipping away so you try and focus on a warm memory (Cloud of Unknowing), but your mind is losing control and no matter how hard you concentrate, the discordance and senility (Leaving Meaning) keeps invading and taking over your thoughts.

Listened to the whole album thing. It was pretty cool. But when this piece of music arrived... It was like waking up and finding yourself in an alternate universe, I was almost scared. Bravo.

Gira's YouTube descriptions are very wholesome. Thank you for all that you and your wonderful band continue to do - allow us to behold such monumental monoliths of sound. I can't tell if it's music that personifies heavenly, angelic traits, or demonic, feral traits... one thing is for certain though: Swans represents the yin (darkness, primal, coldness) within yang (the light, order, warmth). Thus is the human condition & the nature of the universe... and this message is conveyed more and more as Gira and co. chug along, each record more equivocal, as if the beast is shedding its skin... I got lost in the music and typed this lol...
