To the perma-student philosophy; I think it's probably hard to cost-benefit analyze the diminishing returns on learning more versus starting to make money with what you already know.

Here is a hint: Education (used to be) is designed to produce a better human and teach a person how to learn. Training is designed to teach a person how to perform a job or function. A degreed basket weaver (should have had) the same core competencies as any other graduate, including language (both foreign and local -- communication, including literature), mathematics (problem solving), philosophy (why do we do things -- can come from literature), history, science (the scientific method), etc. And they used to be called disciplines for a reason. The idea was once you had the core foundation, you were a generalist and could train complex skills easily. The education system has collapsed and this is no longer true (now we teach subjects rather than disciplines....)

If you're going freelance html, css, js, and PHP are the go-to. I have found though that if you are a noob Python or JS would be the best bet for a first language. Not because they are superior but let's say for example you currently work in sales or finance, I would go with Python as a first language, simply because it would help you in your current job with spreadsheets and automation. This means you're more likely to use the language in real-world cases which not only helps you learn faster but reduces your workload and frees up time to dive deeper into programming concepts.

If you're a creative type photographer, artist, or film, I would go with HTML, CSS, and JS since they can help you create full-stack applications that can get your creative concepts online for the world to see. Then after you have the fundamentals down you can pick up a new language or library with no sweat. The important part is to find a language that has the potential to help in what you do for your day-to-day that way you can do the same job or make the same income in less time then use that extra time to delve deeper into concepts.

As someone who does mostly Django and Laravel, been doing more Django cause of the task/job at hand demanded that but curious in 2022 are we at a point where these frameworks have to be paired with something like react or can we still get away with using mostly the frameworks native templating engine?
