How to Tune your GUITAR

Using the free app “Boss Tuner”, it is possible to tune any guitar (though electric guitars will need the amp so the microphone in your device will pick it up), and the accuracy of the tuner is really good.

However, it is also necessary to have some basic knowledge of the guitar, so that the tuner will function correctly and give you the results you want.

The names of the strings (from thickest to thinnest) are:

E A D G B E

If the letter you see is alphabetically different on the tuner, you’ll need to adjust the tuner more, in order to bring the string into the realm of the letter you need:

Example: play the thickest string - if the tuner says C#, D or D#, then the tuning head needs to be tightened in order to reach E. When the tuner gives a green line in the middle of the note E, you’re in tune!

Repeat for the other strings, and then check them all again once you’ve finished tuning the thin E string.

Also shown in this video is a method by using harmonics and your ear to check. Always try out the main chord shapes to test: E, A, D, G and C.

Hope it helps!

I use this app too. It’s great! Didn’t know about the sensitivity slider though. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing. I use Logic as a multichannel taperecorder and exclude any software stuff if I can and use only real instruments and amps cause it is so much easier and actually cheaper too. I still use Logic 9 cause you really do not have to go over Logic 9.

Logic 9 can do anything that is important just as good and lag free as the newer versions, on top of that the layout of the program is so much more logical compared to the new stuff.

My soundcard is the old PCI (not Pcie) M-Audio Delta series cards and I run it all on an old Hackintosh 6 core xeon asus motherboard running on Mountain Lion. This stuff is I think 12 years old by now and I can still record 8 channels at the same time and pretty much playback unlimited tracks in the Arange.

I record using 8 channel preamps or a cheap Behringer mixer with 8 directect outputs. The big benefit doing it this way is you can have all your instruments plugged in at the same time and wont have to plug in or unplug stuff all the time which saves the ports on the units so your gear lasts longer.

The cost for this old type of hardware I guess is almost free on the used market if you look around a little. And it and the program cand handle usb stuff and softamps better than anyone really need as an amateur.

Hi, as far as I know, each DAW has its stock plug-in tuner. No need to go with Apple. Cheers and thanks for your entertaining content.
