This is one of the oldest scenarios in the book. You look at either of them, doesn't matter, then ask "if you were the other guardian which door would say goes to heaven?" No matter if he was the liar or not he would then point out the wrong door. They have this in the labyrinth from 1986.

It took me so long to understand this but that’s really cool. Also I didn’t get the 2+2 thing until I realized that the guard who lies isn’t necessarily the guard who is guarding the hell gate
