i’ve had both of them and they have nothing in common with each other except the badge on the tank. the r6 is strongest at the top of the rev range and the mt-09 has a big torque delivery from low rpm through the midrange so it will launch harder and pull out a gap that the r6 won’t make up until it’s in 5th and 6th gear. i was surprised at how good the mt09 was and how well suited it was for daily use

MT-09 was stretched for dragging and had a much flatter tire for more straight line traction. Wonder what it would be like if both bikes were modded the same.

I have a R6 and the freaking thing flies I never try a Mt09 but looks and I’m sure is a monster in speed and power

I’ve had both, R6 is horrible for street duty unless you’re tearing shit up. If you’re carving corners, that is the bike you want, period. The MT09 handles much more poorly by comparison, but is more fun imo and much, much more comfortable. Haven’t ridden the new one yet though.

I have an XSR900 which is basically an MT09 and used to have an 04 R6. I could actually launch my R6 better than I can on the XSR just because the XSR tends to lift the front wheel. I know the R6 has no torque, but in a way it made it much easier to launch and keep all the power down. Admittedly, I haven't really worked on launching my XSR since I'm not really trying to race these days.

I'm not too sure why everyone is so shocked that the MT-09 won, the MT has more power and they weigh the same. so subsequently the MT wins. Nothing crazy here imo. I ride a 2016 FZ-09 and wax R6's all day.

Factory swingarm and very old tyre technology running a pilot power 2ct 'hard center' rear tyre (although this might be a new tyre they came out in maybe 2006?) The hard center gave better mileage but wasn't very grippy in a straight line.

Vs a MT09 running an extended swingarm and a very flat profile drag tyre.

I'd expect at least 3-5 bike lengths every time at the 60ft if the 09 rider was as good as the R6 rider.

Good comparison, both riders launched well, really hard to beat a R6 in a all-out drag race. Normal riding the MT09 would feel quicker though.
