most times i turned it off anyways, because it's super annoying and i feel like i lose some control whenever it's on, though i sometimes forgot. but now that i know it wears off the engine too, i will DEFINITELY never forget to turn it off. thanks for the advice!

You make learning about vehicles ridiculously entertaining so it's very easy to retain the information.

Such a great teacher.

Totally agree. The gas savings vs parts wear is like risking dollars to save pennies. The feature is also SUPER ANNOYING; dangerous even, due to the delayed restart. I constantly worry about stepping on gas too quick during the restart. Luckily my current cars Acura MDX Advance & RSX Type S don’t have it and my next car won’t have it either.

THANK YOU!! Finally a voice of reason. I rented a car once with this feature and couldn’t figure out why it kept “stalling” LOL what a ridiculous feature. My first thought was “that starter ain’t going to last!”

I absolutely hate these start/stop stupid systems. It was a poor idea that wears components out faster.

You can disable start and stop feature by taking out the fuse it’s located on the battery connector wire under the seat. It’s very simple to do. Did it on my Jeep the best thing I ever did!

Had a 2017 Dodge Durango with this feature. Had to replace the starter which cost over $1k because the engine mount had to be removed to get the job done. The mechanic checked how many starts the old starter had on it. It had logged 36, 000 starts! We were floored! Even if I had started my car 10 times a day for a year it would have only totaled 3650 starts in a single year, but because it stops the engine at every stoplight, stop sign, and even when you pull in to park, it had racked up that many starts at the 87K mile mark.

My father-in-law's F-150 has auto start stop. I think his current truck is a 2020 like my Ranger. The first time i ever saw the start stop was on his truck. We were going somewhere and i saw him press the button with the A & circular arrow. He explained it shuts off the auto start stop feature. That was a big help because when i got my Ranger, I knew how to deactivate the start stop before the salesman could explain the feature.

Personally, i can't stand the feature and i am glad i can shut it off. As soon as i start my truck up, its the first thing i do. It is the dumbest feature put into vehicles.

I am glad this video surfaced up. So many people here saying that there's delayed acceleration after "full stop" and I thought it was a defect on my car for the longest time.

Made it a tradition to turn off the auto start/stop in my mom's 2023 Terrain every time since the first day she bought it a couple months ago. Stumbled upon this video by accident. Glad to see you agree, Scotty!

Amen, Scotty! I'm a reliability engineer and the auto cutoff drives me nuts for the same reason. You can't save that much on gas vs. replacing a starter - not to mention the extra stress on the engine that has to start with dry bearings since the engine stopped. I have a Kia Telluride and I installed a third market device that remembers your last setting. That way I don't have to push the button every time I start the car.

I am no mechanic, but as soon as I saw this feature I knew this was a bad idea. Thanks for confirming it Scotty.

I'm honestly surprised they don't have stop-start technology that you can't override already.

Thank's Scotty.
In addition to wearing the engine, battery, and starter out faster, the few times I tried that feature on my 2019 Highlander, I noticed a lag in acceleration.
Maybe not noticeable for the average driver, but I've driven Emergency vehicles for over thirty years. If you need to accelerate from a stop to get out of a situation where you may be impacted in a collision, you don't want any hesitation.

I agree with whomever the Scotty Kilmer fan was that said we should harness Scotty’s arms to generate enough power to light up a small city! 😂 Try watching a Scotty video with the sound off and just enjoy his gesticulating! It’s fun! Love ya, Scotty!

100% agree! I just bought a new 2023 Honda Accord and it has one of these STUPID systems. I am already in the habit of turning that RIDICULOUS system off!
