This is a song that contains the edge that mainstream rock has been missing for awhile in my opinion

This is a good song to listen to when you want to walk around looking cool. Sometimes I'm walking around looking cool with this in my headphones and people can't hear it but I bet they're thinking, "Wow he's looking pretty cool walking there, he must be listening to Lydia".

The fact she holds her breath the entire song in a single take is mind blowing.

Fun fact: this video is filmed all in one take. There are no cuts or edits.

Just. one. breath.

"I can't fucking breathe" best part of the entire song!

The recent music video for Highly Suspect's latest single Lydia falls into the category of, "I can't believe this exists." It's shot in
realtime, and the entirety of its four-minute run time features an actress tied down at the bottom of a pool, trying her damnedest to break free.

The first question you're probably asking yourself is, "How on earth can anyone hold their breath that long?!" Well, the actress in this video is actually world champion freediver Marina Kazankova. Here's TS&R to explain why she was the perfect choice for this production:
Marina Kazankova, former freediving champion and world record
holder, is best known underwater for her ‘dynamic breath hold’, or the ability to athletically move and exert energy while holding her breath.
On land, Marina is also an actress and global traveler, speaking several languages (quadrilingual), and once we heard Marina could swim the length of almost four Olympic-sized swimming pools... on a single breath, we knew we had found our character.

The final video was take 6 of 8.

This song alone reminded me of one of my great friends. He recently lost his battle with depression. Rest in peace my friend we all miss you dearly.

LYRICS

Black ocean, cold and dark
I am the hungry shark, fast and merciless
But the only girl that could talk to him just couldn't swim
Tell me what's worse than this
And it echoes in the halls
They danced along the walls
The memories of your ghost
You are the one that I used to love
And I'm still in love, but I've never loved you the most

I've seen better days
So unafraid in my youth
I can't breathe, much less believe

You're getting everything you had
Every little thing you had
I'm gonna run repairs
I've seen your fucking worst
And at your worst, you're still the best
But at my best, I am the worst
It's a curse
Your eyes are lined in pain
Black tears don't hide in rain
And I tied you to the tracks
When I turned around, I heard the sound
I hit the ground, I know there's no turning back

I've seen better days
So unafraid in my youth
I can't breathe, much less believe the truth
Better days, so unafraid in my youth
I can't breathe, much less believe the truth

Black ocean, cold and dark
I am the hungry shark, fast and merciless
But the only girl that could talk to him, she couldn't swim
Tell me what's worse than this
What's worse is all the coke
The ice that numbs my throat if only for the night
My muscles will contract, your bones will crack
It's just a fact 'cause I am here to win this fight

I can't fucking breathe, much less believe the truth
I pick up a mag, aim for this head, and shoot
Better days, so unafraid in my youth
I can't breathe or believe the truth

Your eyes are lined in pain
Black tears don't hide in rain
And I tied you to the tracks
When I turned around, I heard that sound

THIS is the guitar sound I've been looking for in a band since 90's grunge. I love it!
The lyrics, the themes and the guitar arrangements are exactly to my taste. That rarely happens.

My father passed away a couple of days ago and he would listen to this song all the time, he never got tired of it. This song will forever make me cry because of how much it makes me think of my father.

All the symbols in this video from the ticking clock to the key she wears around her neck and the ropes that hold her in place mirror the lyrics perfectly. Feeling trapped and like your drowning as your life is just passing you by and you can’t seem to escape the prison even though you’re the key fucking A. Every line of this song hits me so hard. Dancing with your ghost, the hungry shark, the only one who could talk to him just couldn’t swim, of course the line “I can’t fucking breathe much less believe the “truth”. Just hearing this in 2022. Timeless truth to the insecurities in your own head and overcoming your traumas here.

The fact that this song is about looking at the horrible things you've done to someone you love, is so well executed. One of the best songs released in this decade.

As an oldie I would just like to say that its very gratifying and great to see that some younger bands like this are still making powerful, excellent music.

One of the best visual representations of anxiety and depression I have ever seen.

I feel that this is a perfect description of depression with others telling you you're wrong for feeling so while you go through terminal with self destruction. Life's a beast. 😢 I felt that
