Lyrics:
walk in the room, take off your coat
you look so nice, I've been so cold
you wanna be my special one
I cannot breathe, please just go home

Michelle you are a monster from hell

you know just how to be cruel
when you shake your hips that way, paint your lips that way

Michelle you are a monster from hell

walk in the room, watching you smoke
I'm such a fool, take off your coat

you know just how to be cruel
when you shake your hips that way
I don't care what you say

Michelle you are a monster from hell

I dunno if it's just me but this song feels like a double edged sword. Like, it's insulting the 'Michelle' in a sense, but I can still seem some type of attraction to her. It's kind of like a love-hate relationship. Anyways this song slaps I would sleep to it every night if I didn't have insomnia

Michelle (same spelling and everything) is the name of my childhood abuser and this song genuinely made me tear up the first time I listened to it.

Edit: Thank you to everyone for the kind words. I'm doing fine now, I wish those who've dealt with the same struggle a healthy and happy recovery 💚

i love how the line "michelle, michelle, you are a monster from hell" gets gradually louder and more angry in tone as she convinces herself of it

if you combine these lyrics with the lyrics of michelle by the beatles it goes: “michelle, my belle, you are a monster from hell”

I really don’t understand why everyone compares Heather to Michelle. They are clearly two very different people. To me, Heather is the perfect person, that’s not just beautiful on the inside, but on the outside as well, even to the point where one dislikes them being so flawless. It’s basically a song about chasing perfection. Michelle is a deeply flawed person, that’s beautiful despite their flaws. The narrator loves Michelle even though they wish they didn’t, because the relationship the two have formed is hurtful for them. This song is a lovesick song that expressed the inability to get over them. Michelle and Heather are polar opposites, and the songs are not comparable because they weren’t written for the same reasons, so please stop comparing them, it must feel very wrong to the original artists as well.

Idk if this was the intention but to me instead of an insult to Michelle it sounds more like a love song to her, especially bc of "the way she's cruel when she moves her hips like that or paint her lips like that"

I may not be heather but I’m pretty sure I’m Michelle..

(I really didn’t expect this to blow up.. so here’s a quick edit. yes I might seem edgy and all that. yes, I have done ‘some’ stuff, and I feel a lot of guilt from it all. It’s also really personal things so please don’t try push me to talk about it, thx <3)

So, I'm far from the only person to share my interpretation of this song, but I figured if other people have I'd just throw my idea out there-
This song is obviously about two girls. Michelle, and the other girl, who I feel compelled to call Chloe for clarity's sake.
Michelle is everything that Chloe isn't. Michelle paints her lips a dark red. She wears revealing clothes, kisses boys and girls (and nb people) alike. She has striking blue eyes framed by dark brown or black hair. I imagine in the specific scenario this song is about, she's wearing a short, strapless red dress, translucent black tights and black flats, with a beige polyester coat over it that goes down to her knees. In one pocket of that is a pack of cigarettes and a lighter, as well as maybe her lipstick and a mirror.
Chloe doesn't wear makeup, at least not very much. She has curly blonde hair, and hazel eyes. She doesn't dress in anything revealing. She grew up in a conservative Christian household, and she's more tolerant than her parents were, but she's internalized a lot of the messages she was taught.
And when she meets Michelle, Chloe falls in love- and vice versa. Michelle is nowhere near new to the whole ordeal, so she begins going after Chloe. But Chloe's conservative upbringing left her with internalized homophobia, and she's afraid of her feelings for Michelle. This gets worse as Michelle begins actively hitting on her, asking Chloe to be her girlfriend. Chloe feels confused, scared, angry, suffocated. She sees Michelle as a sinner, as a sin, as though she's trying to tempt her into being a sinner too, but she feels like she already is one for loving Michelle at all. This leads to conflicted affection and resentment toward Michelle, and the song is about Chloe breaking under the pressure of her love and her religious guilt and just falling apart, hence the overall sad tone of the song.
I saw someone else interpret the song as ending with Chloe "going insane and killing Michelle", but I never saw it that way personally. I just think she's breaking down.
