Long before Interstate 70 rolled through Denver, the main path through the city was along Colfax Avenue, home to roadside motels and supper clubs, music venues and alligator-wrestling ponds.

There's quite a bit of history along Colfax, I've a history book about Colorado from 1959, so you'll come across what was where, & then look at it today, what a change

Born in 1951, we lived just south of the W. Colfax Viaduct and later off of Colfax and Lafayette. I walked many a mile on both ends of Colfax, once from Broadway and Colfax to Quebec/Lowry Air Force Base. I remember Mammoth Garden skating rink off of W. Colfax and N. Clarkson. Lots to see and do on Colfax in the 50s-60s. I left for the Army in late 60s, have been back a few times and so sad to see history marching on.

Caught Santanna at Mammoth Gardens, just after Woodstock. Also, i brag about catching Jimmy at Redrocks @ 16. Oh! Doors at DU student union. Was a bus boy. Jim came out, black leather pants, long white shirt. He carried a six-pack of beer out and strolled to Ray's piano. Set em down, popped one off and slammed the whole can and tossed it into the crowd.
