I was today years old when I found out the guy named “TheGreep” that I was following for months on lastfm is actually the lead guitarist of black midi

The fact that Greep can belt and do absolutely insane shit with his guitar at the same time over sometimes polyrhythms never ceases to amaze me.

The sax player with the flannel is the sax player from Black Country, New Road. Pretty cool crossover.

I played in a band with Geordie's mum, doing pubs in Walthamstow! We rehearsed a few times at her house. Geordie was about 13 at the time. He was phenomenally talented even then.

I think it's safe to say that Morgan Simpson is one of the most impressive drummers i've ever seen play. His creativity on a lot of parts is otherwordly.

Greep’s voice combined with his appearance never ceases to cognitive dissonancify me

I hear some Zappa, and I hear some King Crimson, but most importantly I hear black midi—these guys are one of the most innovative and original bands that I've heard in the last decade. Every comparison to other bands is natural, but no one can ignore black midi's ferocious creativity.

Massive props to the sound engineers on this one. Captured their sound so perfectly.

cam’s tone with that rickenbacker is fucking phenomenal

its crazy how much better Geordie's vocals got between schlagenheim and cavalcade, maybe its just the mixing or the songwriting that changed but his singing is downright showmanlike on Dethroned

"Dad why is my sisters name Adele?"
"Because your mother loves Adele's music"
"Thanks dad"
"No problem black midi - Full Performance (Live on KEXP at Home)"

The drummer, Morgan Simpson, is in my humble opinion (as a decent drummer myself), one of the most talented and technically adept drummers I’ve seen come along in a long while. The whole band is fantastic as well. Black Midi is one of those bands that if you don’t get it, you won’t get it, no matter how hard you try or how much acid you drop lol

Fun fact, Black Midi is also a niche genre of music. It’s essentially making a lot of noise by layering many many many sounds, with the musical foresight to see the big picture that when it all comes together you end up with something actually coherent. Blows my mind from a production standpoint

Every member of this band is in another whole new level

I was honestly scared because of how good Schlagenheim was, but this isn't just a total departure / evolution, it sounds absolutely amazing. Cannot wait for it.

Dethroned is a certified hit. It’s literally transcendent.

There is something so chaotically addictive about John L, my ears almost can’t handle it but I keep coming back
