'A cloud of pain' : Summertime 'explosion' of midges in Scotland

They are tiny, they bite and they cause Scotland a fortune in lost tourism revenue.
Record numbers of midges have been recorded across the country this summer.
Experts believe that a mixture of warm weather and heavy rain has been the perfect breeding conditions for the insects.

I grew up in a small Scottish country village, I did wonder why my experience of midges was less extreme than the tourists. I might be immune. Out of a million midges I might get one or two bites with no redness or welts but I just hated when they went in my mouth and eyes.

Most Scots are immune to midges but they like the English.

Is so so simple to reduce midges, just made more nests for bids who eat those midges. Simple cheap and eco friendly

Iv had many camping breaks spoiled in Scotland due to these little bastards, I don't think you can comprehend how bad they are unless you have spent time in Scotland outdoors near a river or forest

I got bit by a midge at Loch Lomond and had a bindi for a few years, did not go unnoticed at high school!

I live in London and where I go to school these bastards attack me every day - have to resort to wearing insect repellent almost every day

Really hot weather, 20C lol. That is an average daytime high in SE England in summer. Try 34C for six consecutive days like in August last year.

Would it be so bad if the midge population was decimated?

Would covid-19 work against midges? They drink blood and covid-19 Is in the blood! Would be great to know what would happen if midges took covid-19? I'm using Avon skin so soft as it works great!
