Hey! So I’ve recently gotten a lot of messages asking what I’m doing in Paris and so I thought I’d let you know my journey! There’s lots of ways of studying in Paris but this is mine :)

I also forgot to mention, many universities in France (les facultés) are free for French students which also encouraged me to study in France over England!

Hope this can be helpful!

My grandad was French and I have citizenship but I never learn’t the language growing up and felt cut off from my identity and a faker in a lot of ways. In lockdown I swapped courses and unis in august too!! Swapped to French and now Im stumbling my way through a French degree to move to Paris for my year abroad x

I didn’t realise we come from a very similar language background! I’m half French too (mum french and dad english) my mum spoke to me in French growing up but i always responded back in English. I studied both French and Spanish at Uni of Bath and loved it but felt a bit of a fraud as people on my course kept saying “aren’t you bilingual already?” And as much as i wanted to be, I wasn’t and wanted to go to uni to study langauges to further improve my level. I discovered your channel a few weeks ago and loving the content! 🥰

I found you recently and fell in love with your videos and how joyous they are. I'm half and half as well, my mother is from Paris and my father is American/Argentine, but I grew up in the States. When you described your relationship to the French language with your mom, I completely related!! My family speaks French, I understand the language, but I find it hard to express myself because I'm not used to speaking it. Watching your videos now, and how well you speak the language, gives me hope! I'm also a history major, well art history but I've loved seeing you study art history (p.s. completely agree that some of the guys in the paintings are very cute haha). Like you, I feel quite french and I see myself back in france (or at least back in europe). Anyway, I'm so glad I found you and your channel!

The way you describe growing up bilingual is relatable!! I am half french half Dutch and I had the exact same experience, I can understand everything but speaking is so much harder! Now I’m planning to move to Paris after my bachelors degree for a year so I can improve my french and just connect to my french side!

I can relate SOO much with evything you said. My mum is french, my dad german so i grew up in kind of the same situation as you did. Also the part with having a french side is something I'm thinking about a lot atm. So I definitely want to live abroad sooner or later :)

On my year abroad in Bordeaux right now! Well, I should say I’m coming to the end of it :/ speaking french fluently has always been a goal of mine (not what I study just on the side) and I’m going to continue to work on it to hopefully do a masters in Paris 🙆🏼‍♀️ loved watching your videos, and excited to see more from you. Big love!

I'm actually the other way around! Both my parents are british but I've grown up speaking french in switzerland. i do speak fluent english and i've never really felt swiss so i always wanted to go to uninversity in the uk!! i feel like i'd get along with everyone so much better and i'd have a sort of international outlook on england. i sadly will be staying in switzerland for uni because the uk is too expensive but i'm hoping to do my year abroad in the uk or the usa!!! bisous, merci pour la vidéo, je ne savais même pas que t'étais française hehe

I have no clue why Youtube recommended me this video, but I recognize in your life story some elements of mine: my wife is Dutch, I am French, and I have two young daughters. As they are growing up in a Dutch environment, they speak to me in mix composed of 70% Dutch and 30% French. I've observed they tend to opt for the simplest/less complicated word: for example, 'auto' instead of 'voiture'. Was it the same for you when you grew up? Speaking mostly in French at home, having French cartoons on TV + Disney movies in French have helped a bit. I see also they do much more efforts when we visit my French family, to opt for the adequate French word and try to correct their syntax. How was it for you when you met your relatives on your mum's side?
Anyway, thank you for this video, I feel a bit better. I hope they'll also become as fluent as you are!

I've been watching your videos for about three months and I like your videos a lot!
I am actually half French and half
Japanese and I've lived in Japan since birth. I also wanted to go to France and applied to university using Parcoursup.I was worried about this decision for a long time, but your video made me feel at ease! The acceptance announcement is in June and I hope I will be accepted. Et merci beaucoup pour tes vidéos, je peut rêver la vie que je vais peut-être avoir dans quelques mois à Paris !!!!

Awww I really feel this - my mother is French Canadian and my father is English Canadian and I grew up in the states so I had the same issue with understanding French but not having the same speaking level. I got to live in Paris for a year though when I was a kid and the immersion really helped like you said. I’m 27 now though and my speaking skills are slowly deteriorating 😬

I´m from Scandinavia and I wish to have an exchange year in France or England. But I worry my French might not be good enough to study psychology in French. Thanks for sharing a bit about your experience of studying abroad, Eloise :)
