Kids like to collect things, but there are kids that take this to the extreme. They have a hard time throwing out many objects and sometimes even large household objects like furniture.

My attachment to objects was more about who gave them to me because, though I was unable to express it at the time, my emotional processing was that someone cared about me and this was a symbol of that. It was partly attached to the fact that I started having people I loved die from a very young age and having something I could hold onto that wouldn’t go away was HUGE! I guess my point is that while you can start to look for hoarding behaviors and address them, don’t jump to conclusions about the motivation. Speaking from experience you can’t solve a psychological problem without understanding why it’s there to begin with.

I know a woman who hoards because of worry about money, she thinks she can sell junk. Also, it causes anxiety to get rid of anything.

For me I have a problem of hoarding things that had a lot of value but are basically worthless now and I personify objects to the point of naming anything remote interesting and I remember too

I recognize alot of the hoarding I see as coming from a financial cause.”I can’t afford to go out and replace this.”Which is what people tell them as a solution, “Why don’t you get rid of this you can just buy a new one if you need it.” You would think we all lived through the Great Depression. 🙄 And yes, I recognize this in myself and it’s irritating when people think you have unlimited resources to just go buy new like they would.

I honestly don't want to throw things away, but I do look to get rid of some stuff that isn't doing anything for me. Most of it has memories, but as I a learning, memories can lead to junk being around, move on!
