Germany isn't Japan. There is no universal rule for this, everyone handles this differently, and it may also be situational. If you're invited to a party, there's a good chance no-one takes their shoes off.

Why is there sign language next to subtitles, am I missing something?

That's just not true! Well, yes, I think most Germans take their street shoes out when they're in their own homes. But if you are a guest at someone's home, , it's different: some people want you to take your shoes off, some don't care. My guest usually leave them on, my daughter takes them off, .... Just ask when you enter a foreigner's home - so easy!

I am German and 73 years old and know many Germans in many German areas. And never ever has anybody in Germany asked me to take off my shoes when I visited them, nor did I ask people visiting me. There might be the odd person or 1 or 2 with a white carpet, but otherwise? This is nonsense

I feel like the only people who tend to leave their shoes on are American. Everyone else from everywhere in the world that I ever meet is always weirdly obsessed with telling people about how they don't wear shoes in their home.

I have had Germans walk straight inside my house with shoes on unapologetically. 😂 I dont believe this to be true. As a middle class indian i do find it a little offensive as we are taught to always leave shoes at the shoe racks or outisde the door. 😂 But it is all about acceptance and tolerance isn't it?

Probably males sense to add sign language but I'd would prefer if YouTube had an option to turn it off. Since you introduced the sign language I can barely watch this channel anymore as my brain has trouble focussing on anything and it gives me an instant headache.

Badly explained German custon. Usually, in Germany the guest would ask the host, if he or she should take off their street should. More than often the host would reply that it is okay to leave them on ... or alternatively offer house slippers.

In my elementary school we needed hausschuhe but we kept them at our classroom at the back of the school. So we walked across the ENTIRE school with our street shoes and the school just pretended that made sense

That's just nonsense. It's no rule in Germany to wear "Hausschuhe". If fact most visitors just wear thier street shoes.
