Today I asked Minister of Health Adrian Dix about COVID-19 testing in BC. Nova Scotia conducted 3,000 more COVID-19 PCR tests than BC despite having a fifth of our population and a fraction of our cases. If the goal is to keep transmissions low, ramping up testing is critical to achieving this.
More testing allows us to make better decisions based on better data, and targets asymptomatic people. We have 2.7 million unused rapid COVID-19 tests in BC, which this gov’t continues to ignore w/out a proper explanation.
We see other jurisdictions test proactively and have success in keeping COVID-19 numbers low. Why can’t we do the same in BC? The Minister had no good answers.
