Mental health care needs to be part of our universal healthcare system
Doing so would:

✅ Provide better care for British Columbians
✅ Free up doctors to treat more patients
✅ Save the province money in the long run

When mental health and mental illness goes untreated, people end up in the healthcare system for their unmet needs.

It adds to the burn out that we see in healthcare workers, it costs the province a lot more money, and it’s making the problem worse.

The BC Green Caucus and the BC Psychologist Association proposed a solution to this crisis in 2020 – fund psychologists as part of primary care networks.

It is the first step in ensuring that mental health care is an integral part of our universal system.

The BC NDP promised to act on the proposal back then but it's been almost 2 years and still nothing.

When I asked about this in question period today Minister Dix did not stand and Minister Malcolmson stood up to talk about other things. Not one mention of primary care networks. #bcpoli #Mentalhealth #health
