This is what I find so cool about the idea of setting up a piano in a public place for anyone to play: it shows there‘s something more to people than their appearance and allows them to communicate with whoever is passing by - and everyone gets to tap into the common emotional experience of music. In a world where media consumption increasingly isolates people, this is a precious thing.

He was into the music the moment he started...oblivious to everything else. This happened to me once. I played at a hotel in front of people on a grand piano reserved for the residents. I had never done this before and probably never will again, even though I was asked to play every night afterwards. I’ll never forget that experience. It takes nerve to improvise in a public space. This man had that nerve. A beautiful piece.
