Move or Add and outlet without having to cut into the drywall!!
This is just one way to do this and it takes minimal tools and time. It also keeps things safe by covering and securing all wires and connections.

I will say there is a better way to secure the wires in the original outlet. They don't usually RECOMMEND that you use the push in's or combine push in connections with the screw terminals, but it is okay. Just not recommended or preferred by the Pro's.

The "correct" way is to Pig Tail all the wires in the box and then run one wire from each bundle to the outlet. That way the outlet only has a single black, white and Ground running to it. Keeps things clean and organized.

This video is mainly to show one of many ways too add or move outlets and it can be done DIY style.

This was an excellent way of running 12-2 throughout my garage. A lot of garages built back in the day have 1-2 outlets and one of those outlets is for garage door which you could also tap into. But this was a great fix. I will say to those attempting this. Understand your receptacle/outlet. GFCI has a line and load side. Your line side takes in power from main circuit breaker your load runs your outlets. Pigtail both. Make sure you install that properly. Also it was not a simple run wiring through plastic conduit. I dry fit everything than tried running wire stuff was far more difficult to push through than I anticipated. So I literally had to disassemble and run wire through each piece of pvc then pull wire through then assemble that section working my way through the entire “pvc run”. I had some 90’s and junction boxes etc. so just pull all your wire through each individual piece as you work down the line other wise even with fish tape it’s not the easiest to pull your wires. That I found strange seeing it’s like plastic/rubber insulation of the 12-2 through pvc I thought it’d pull right through all my twists and turns but fuck no. Shit would not budge. So I disassembled and laid it all out then one piece at a time ran wire through then assembled that piece or section, then did the same process all the way through till I reached my last piece. Came out sick though. Garage with my new cabinets I made are awesome. Thank you for sharing this.

Nice and clean, great install. Appreciate it. I’m gonna copy exactly what you did in my garage and do another one externally in my screened and patio area. 🫵🏼💪🏼⚡️⚡️⚡️

that's pretty funny, I never thought about just cutting the back out of a box to make a box extension, I'm going to have to steal that idea. Nice work, I personally would've installed EMT though it definitely would've looked a lot cleaner than the plastic pipes, but pvc does work.

Love this. I was really about to run to the junction for my wood shop lol this is a better idea

By pig tail both I mean I pig tailed my line side as one then I did a separate pig tail for my load side. That way all my outlets are protected from the GFCI. Thank goodness I got that info from another electrician YouTuber who explained that process.

This help me out a million, thanks you so much. I wanted a extra outlet in my garage, and the electrician wanted to charge me $700

good video. don't use the push ins though. They get weak and can eventually arc. better to pigtail all the wires.

Kinda looks better than metal conduit good job,

Biggest issue I have is the original receptacle. What you should be doing is twisting all the wires together (black/black, white/white and ground) and running a pigtail off of that connection to the original outlet.

Thanks, this is exactly what I need to do.

You voided the box listing and approved usage. First hint was you had to cut it out. Don’t understand why you didn’t use an approved listed “box extension”. Added bonus, cheaper than the box you butchered. That size pvc must be supported within 3 feet of a box or fitting and every 3 feet along the conduit. Why in the world would you work on a hot receptacle? At our electrical contracting company, if you did that, you would be fired, no questions asked. Always be safe, the life you save may just be your own!

Wouldn't it be easier to just use rolls of black, white, and green wire instead of Romex? It would be easier to run through the tubing and around corners.

They say to always secure the loose screw in the receptical so its not sticking out as it will be hot.

Just use an add-a-box. Dont void the UL listing and ‘modify.’

My friend, I don't like the aesthetic of running the wire outside the wall in the conduit. I would not do it in my garage and Hope renters would ask me prior doing anything & treat the rental property as their own & not as a one night stand slot.
It would be much more educational and beneficial for me to learn how to run the wire inside of the existing wall - up and across studs.

Thanks for the vid. FYI, The code (in my area) is you're not allowed to use romex inside pvc.

why is the TV drop 1 stud over from the TV mount? would be cleaner if the new outlet was right above the TV mount bracket on the same stud.
