Canadians are some of the highest taxed people on Earth. The Canadian Government has a huge number of Employees, Public Sector has grown to 21% of all workers in the last 9 years. Take a look at CRA: our Tax Agency has 59K Employees for a Canadian population of 41M. How does that compare with other countries? It’s ridiculously too many here: Ron runs all the stats Germany has 88 Million people and 13K tax workers: WTF? It gets worse

The problem with government is it’s not their money. They’re not accountable.

My nephew recently got a government job, working for some department dealing with refugee claims.
He works from home 4 days a week and his comment was that his co-workers are absolutely clueless and lazy, like no accountability.

You really gotta wonder what all these government employees actually do, and why we have a system so devoted to throwing money around with no regard to the people that actually have to be productive in order to make this economy work.

So the current Canadian government borrows money to make payroll for overstaffed government agencies. Then we get taxed higher, which is money going to pay interest on that debt. This is insane! These numbers are insane !!

Thank you for bringing this up, as 59000 ppl working at CRA still no value added.. still to get an answer you get a run around from one department to another with wait time average one abd half hour to 2 hours... ridiculous

Two years ago I got an audit. I called the agent like 6 times over a month. She never picked up once and never replied to voice mail. Never returned my call either.

Great show Ron!

CRA is not meant to be efficient. If it were, 90% of it would be digital by now. It’s to employ people who in effect, run the CRA how they want. We have to stop comparing ourselves to other countries and get to the voting booth and give someone else a try at managing this country in a different manner. Let’s hope things change drastically because it may get even worse if it doesn’t.

Have a great weekend!

This year I’ve spent a lot of time dealing with the CRA. One issue took one year to conclude, first they lost the documents I electronically submitted (and was confirmed as received) to their system, then when I called to follow up 3 months later nobody knew what I was talking about. I literally had to contact all the departments and get quite angry with the one of the people to get anything happening. Then another issue they had no fricken idea what was actually going on and I had to threaten them with an ombudsman complaint for the ignorant “case officer” to actually do anything. I one day spent all the business hours that they say they are open on hold listening to the god awful music only to get cut off after 8 hours. Yes. 8.
Best part is that their mistakes have now cost me so much money and they say “not our problem”. Well actually it is. Case law precedent is that if a loss is suffered by a client due to malice, negligence or mistake on their part that we can go after them legally. I will be doing so.

And yet millions of people have been getting away with mortgage fraud over the past decade

I had no idea the CRA was that overstaffed. They have time to reassess, only thing is it takes months to get it complete and when I tried to call in to check on status it was a 2.5 hour wait, then the waitlist was full so I was told to call back another time. Finally woke up first thing in the morning to reach someone in 30 min

The bureaucracy is expanding to meet the needs of the expanding bureaucracy.

Yeah, my neighbor works for the government for some bullshit department, works from home 4/5 days a week, and does jack shit. Goes to her kids’ school on the clock, has girlfriends over for coffee on the clock, surfs the web for home decor while on the clock, and is a total dingaling. BUT, has a “degree” in interior design, which I guess makes her “qualified” to work for the government. But, she at least speaks English, so that’s a step above who the Government of Canada mostly hires.

Labour shortage means we have to bring millions of new Canadians to replace the existing expensive labour force.

It’s only going to get worse. If you don’t like it you can apply for MAID.
