You are my beloved black classic pianist. I have been aware of your struggle to prove yourself from trying to get a one night show in run down bars to major networks but this level of rejection is news to me. You made us all proud. I am grateful to have lived through this time in history with you. Future generations will only wish.

It hurts to know Nina felt so much regret over not getting to fulfill her dream of being the world's first black classical pianist. But she became one of the most revered and influential singers & musicians of all time and that's something no one could ever take away from her. She's my queen ❤

To the people, she was the world's 1st classic pianist.
Too bad establishment didn't see her Genius.
The people did.

How could anyone refuse such a powerful creator as Nina. Seeing her so heartbroken is just agony. No one will ever compare to her and her ability to create blunt, beautiful and important art. ❤️‍🔥

Their loss was the world’s gain. The name, Nina Simone, is far better known than the Curtis Institute.

At the time Ms. Simone would have been the first Black Classical Pianist, this is where her heart would have been for a lifetime. However what happened was a dream defeated, this dream affected her for a lifetime.... Young black and gifted, how many young ppl during the 1950's and 1960's had dreams defeated.... So very sad...

Nina Simone’s musicianship was unsurpassed. I think most people focus on her “artistry”, song interpretation, and vocals, but her skill as a pianist was remarkable.

My incredible black piano teacher in Cleveland was also shunned by the establishment in the 60's. I once was in tears over a piece's difficulty and heard this: "So what, do you think life is easy?? You wanna talk to my buh-lack face about what's hard about life?! You wanna have that conversation???"
"Not today, " I quietly replied, and was gently led through a difficult Chopin cadenza...
William T Appling, you were a marvelous man.

Not in their eyes but in my eyes you are the 1st black classical piano Nina Simone that name rings bill spirits.

It's soul breaking to see her in her last years. The pain she endured throughout her life is unimaginable. Hope she found peace, at last!

... and this is how Curtis Institute lost the oppirtunity to have the honour of counting Nina among its most distinguished students. Their loss.

Nina had so much talent and her unique voice and presence lives on today. I'm sorry she was mistreated, one of millions unfairly excluded from the white world. She is a fkn legend ❤❤❤

Nina, you will always be the first black classical pianist in my book. Just because your gorgeous voice accompanies your playing sometimes doesn't make you any less of a classical pianist. You're somehow a timeless woman well ahead of her time
