Watched this 4 times this week. I miss real people very much. Good people. Honest. Don't steal. Helpful. Didn't take no mess either. Good don't mean weak.

I grew up in Haywood county NC, on the other side of the county from Maggie valley, and this man grew up as a personal hero of mine. R.I.P. Popcorn, you are dearly missed. They should've left you Alone

Sad cause he said he wouldn't slow down or even stop cause too many bad memories but he looks back to take one last look at that old barn.
Rest easy, Popcorn

That little double take there at the end, one last look back at it. You could tell deep down, he probably knew he wasn't ever gonna see it again. Even before all the law BS. Like he said at the beginning, he didn't want nothin to do with the place. That one little last look spoke volumes. Really something.

Now that I’m almost 60 I find myself telling stories on every bend of the local mountain roads to my kids just like Popcorn was doing. I guess maybe that’s why I like Popcorn. Time goes on.

I can relate to what he said about the old homeplace. My granny on my dad's side of the family had no intentions of ever going back to where she grew up for a visit. She had such a hard time there that it was just something she wanted to keep in the past.

My grandma grew up on Hemp Hill. She still tells stories about driving popcorn to school and what not. She also, like him, will not go back up there for the bad memories. I’ve always wondered what was so bad up there but never wanted to make her think about it.

I was ten years old when my mama told me to go unload the groceries out the car. I was saying that I would unload em when I was good and ready when I was knocked down on the halls floor, and all I could see was Donnie smiling and darting out the front door. This is the only time I back mouthed my mama. I had to bathe with the bar of gold dial soap with the dented corner that she floored me with for good measure. 👍This is exactly what I deserved and I am still very grateful that my parents loved me enough to make me mind.

Popcorn is one of a kind, literally. He was born in 1946. But the way he talks and describes what he had is like 1920 and if that makes no sense to anyone, I really don’t care. God bless all🙏

It’s amazing. Popcorn always had old classic cars. Even in the years of 2000’s. Those are still his vehicles. I wish I could have known Popcorn and shake his hand. Oh yes!
