This is why feeding ad lib forage is so so important. If your pony is overweight buy a Trickle Net, they're about £40 but so worth it!! You can even hang them so they swing if they're still too fast. And always feed a scoop of chaff just before riding. Hope he feels much better soon :)

Thank you for this video. You and Harlow reach a lot of young equestrians and this sort of information is vital learning material. It has become far too common that equestrians blame foul mood and poor behavior on the horse instead of investigating the cause. It's estimated that 1 in 3 horses in the world has or has had ulcers. Riding, stabling and stress from travel increase the chances. I hope any of your viewers noticing the same behaviors in their own horses take the chance to work with their vet to discover and treat the cause. <3

Hi. I had a pony like that. To note this is my opinion...the stable door is too high. It will make his neck and back sore trying to look out. Alfalfa is a big no no. Basically most horses have ulcers. Try to have as close to 0 sugar 0 starch diet with high fibre. So I use Top chop grass, unmolassed beet pulp really wet, a low starch and low sugar balancer. Linseed oil. Hay in a small hole haynet instead of haylage and lots of turnout on not so fresh pasture. It will take about 2 months to get him right. Also dont have any leg straps on his rug use tail one only. Physio with carrot and tail stretches will help. A big help with our pony too was using an adjustable tree saddle with a dressage girth. Most ponies at his age have ulcers. A girthy pony does like a big padded numnagh and a saddle with dressage girth straps as a high girth hurts their tummy.
Finally I found the meds were fine for initial treatment but longterm correct high fibre feed is really important and turnout. I wouldn't rescope him as its quite traumatic for them. Honey with apple cider vinegar for tummy digestion and a tea spoon magnesium for easing the muscles is also a great supplement to add to your feed. Best of luck.

It’s great that you aren’t
giving up on popcorn a lot of people would just say “ok he’s lame let’s get rid of him” popcorn even if he is lame he hopefully will get better but I bet popcorn will recover

Don’t worry! Harlow, the fact that you are willing to not ride him and let him rest is super good, some people might ride until the horse can’t walk anymore, he will get better if you give him lots of Love!
