I used to go the 24 hours of Rouen boat race for work
One time I rubbed my face with wet hands and it resulted in a serious eye infection that spread to my whole body.
A few years later, I ended up getting my feet wet and they started seeping blood from the soles the next day!
I can't believe they want anyone to swim there!
When I was there in the early 2000s the portable toilets just drained into the river.

Update: So this was not 100% successful. Triathletes are getting really sick. I haven’t. And the information coming out of Paris and the sick athletes is murkier than that water. This is what we know, the sicknesses are gastrointestinal and similar to food poisoning and Norovirus. E coil levels have been too high for some of the practice rounds. So those were canceled. We are not allowed to talk to media. I’m just hoping I can complete 🇦🇺

Why can’t the swimmers swim in pools like they always do

Didn't the government officials there say that the water was soo safe they'd go swimming in it? And then they backed out?

I think it’s really sad that a major city like Paris doesn’t regulate their waste water to the degree small towns in the US do… as someone who directly works for Waste water treatment facilities, there are towns with populations as low as 1000 people that have full UV systems to kill bacteria as well as lagoons, to separate the waste.
