This guy is why I still surf. I'm going on 61 and have been surfing since 1974 at age 12 I found what made me feel whole, feel alive feel right! I'm older then slater but he has taught me so freaking much about this amazing sport. My entire life has been living at the beach, I know nothing else I only understand how the ocean works and how I can utilize it's energy. Everything has its flow and I truly believe that. I never went pro but I can surf with some of the best and not get blown out. I'm that confident in my abilities and at 60 instead of slowing down I've turned up the intensity. I can't live in fear of trying something id regret if I didn't try it. I've had several injuries and here I am in Ventura about to paddle out. I've been doing this over 47 years and invested so much of myself into my craft. I surf to stay alive.

Oh ya and one more thing. Kelly thank you for your total devotion to our sport and all you've given to other surfers. I've followed your career from day one and still continue to learn from you. I can read the ocean and waves well due to bodyboarding my whole youth but as an adult surfer I find it hard to get my body and board to follow the path my mind wants to go. Kelly truly is the master of positioning and being one with the wave. The GOAT
