Scientists Just Detected the Biggest Planetary Collision Ever. NASA scientists have detected a huge planetary collision. This planetary collision occurred 18,000 light years away between two Neptune-like planets and was detected by The All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae. Scientists can detect these explosions by measuring how a star or planet dims, and the amount of dust clouds around it. Similar dust clouds were discovered around star HD166191, near the V488 Persei Disc, an area of space known for planetesimal collisions.
