While based on the title alone I was kinda expecting a talk about the so called "ufo religions" that had sprung up in the late twentieth century, this was still a quite interesting and endearing video.

Actually found most of this kind of endearing. That the astronauts seem to have managed to take the least offensive bits of their beliefs into space with them ... and that their respective religious "mentors" were cool with things. Given the number of peculiar globe/space/astronaut activity deniers we have out in the YouTube environs, this was a very nice recounting of the people who have been there. thanks.

On the other hand we still have religious ideologues that believe space isn’t real and that we live under the firmament. That said as long as they are not burning heretics at the stake they are making some sort of progress.

Separation of church and state is the most misunderstood idea of all time. It doesn't mean you can't have religion while working in government or pray. You simply can not rule people using a religious law, not in the separate constitution. Sharia law, 10 commandments, etc are not recognized as actual crimes here unless they are put into law, like murder, theft, ect.

I love the almost all sci-fi that shows (The Expanse, Babylon 5, etc) that as humanity goes out into space, religion goes out there with them.

Fantastic video. As a nonbeliever myself, l find it touching how so many astronauts have performed their various religious practices in space with a minset that they were trying to represent all of humanity. Buzz Aldrin's later confession that he had regrets about his display because it wasn't inclusive was especially touching.

And the humor of the "space pope" should get a round of applause, regardless of belief.

I appreciate Simon's respectful delivery. I'm not very religious either but a lot of good people are believers and as long as they aren't forcing their beliefs on others then they deserve to be respected as we all wish to be respected for our own beliefs.
