EXCEPT, no one plays the bishop to c3. They always play their knight to c3.

To counter this you play: Bg5 after Qe7.

Bf4 is a blunder because you end up losing the bishop due to a fork.

Edit: Correction, Bf4 also works as long as you play Nc3 after Qxb2, but Bf5 works as well after f6 exf6 and then Nxf6.

The Englund Gambit is for 800 elo. It's bad in so many ways that it's not even considered like an option against d4 :/

Defense against it is easy, and you end up in a difficult position, but it often works until ~1500.
