Honestly an old mini PC x86 also works, Arduino is also a micro controller, the pi is a single board computer

don't forget that rpi is way more complicated than arduino. if you only need something simple and don't want to be messing around with an entire computer, just use arduino

IDK why Arduino is becoming more a business company. i am a fan of raspberry pi organization and their philosophy " Computing for everybody ".

use raspberry pi pico for small projects they are cool and give good performance for the cost.

Do not trust people to teach you if they don't know basics of what they are teaching.
