Honestly an old mini PC x86 also works, Arduino is also a micro controller, the pi is a single board computer

An AVR8 based Arduino is roughly the capacity of the computer that flew Armstrong to the Moon and back, although to be safe, they had a spare for emergency return, also the Sat V rocket to leave Earth had its own IBM in the middle . Now the Apollo computer had more I/O pins than an UNO, making it more like an ATMEGA board, however the entire code and data fit in 32 KB customized to each trip and radiation hardened by putting each of those 256 kilobit in its own wiring detail .

don't forget that rpi is way more complicated than arduino. if you only need something simple and don't want to be messing around with an entire computer, just use arduino

Compare an AVR microcontroller with an ARM Cortex A processor it's like to compare a cat with a lion

It depends on what kind of DIY project you are doing and how much cost you are ready to pay for that.

IDK why Arduino is becoming more a business company. i am a fan of raspberry pi organization and their philosophy " Computing for everybody ".

use raspberry pi pico for small projects they are cool and give good performance for the cost.

All single core CPUs are single threaded. Yet they all feature multiasking. Go figure: multitasking is achieved my software process scheduler.

Do not trust people to teach you if they don't know basics of what they are teaching.

This is the case here.
