I’m done chasing the so-called “Aussie Dream.” After a year of feeling stuck, frustrated by the soaring cost of living, and trapped by a system that’s drained my passion, I’ve decided to walk away from Australia—possibly for good. From the myth of the white picket fence to being told “this is the greatest country on Earth,” I’ve finally reached my breaking point.

Join me as I pack my bags for a year-long documentary of self-discovery, pushing my mind and body to the limit, and exploring new corners of the world—starting with a quick stop in New Zealand. I’m tired of regret, and ready to live a life that actually makes me happy. If you’re also fed up with feeling stuck or wondering “what if?”, this video is for you. Let’s talk about breaking free, following our own paths, and finally saying goodbye to the stories holding us back.

If you arrive in Australia poor, and work your arse off until retirement, you can bet your butt you will die poor.

Back in the 80s corrupt politicians were punished. Now they get rewarded and disappear.

Absolutely $20 for a pint $70 for a cheap brand of cigarettes. WTF. Nobody can afford the rent let alone a house.

Australia, the equivalent of a dude who peaked in high school.

Wasted opportunity, stupid politicians. We could have been a tech manufacturing powerhouse but instead we "dig holes good"

My family has been stuck here since my convict ancestor was sentenced to transportation to port Arthur in 1850... We still can't afford to leave

I called it in 2010. “Australia’s fucked.” My friends were offended when I said it then. They ain’t laughing now.

I understand what you are saying. After I left school in 2009 in Darwin to go into a trade, it was the single worst decision I ever made. It was the most toxic and abusive job I had ever done, and stupidly I tried four more times to get a trade. Fourteen years later, my life is ruined through a cycle of getting a job and working it the best I could for 6 months just to be told, "You're not a good fit" and "It's not working out." Now I am trying to fix my life, studying IT, and once I'm done, I'll be leaving Australia for good! And I get what you say about Australians thinking Australia is the best place in the world. I've always had the dream of moving to Nashville, Tennessee, and the amount of Aussies that told me, "I'm a f#ckwit, " "idi0t, " and "Have fun getting shot, " things like that, always left me shocked, and I could never understand why the hatred and put-downs, so once I'm done tying my loose ends, I'm gone permanently, and I can't wait! I wish you all the best!

Hate to say it but as a non-Aussie living in Aus, it's pretty apparent what a house of cards this country is. The entire economy is built on the real estate bubble, I have never seen such a high % of people working either as a tradie, an estate agent, as some kind of manual labourer relating to housing (fixing air con, pools, fences etc etc) or working for a bank which in Australia means primarily in real estate loans and investments. All of that bubble was inflated with Chinese money from digging up resources and selling them to China for their bubble. All it takes is for the global economy to have another 2008 and for that money to dry up and I honestly can't even imagine how bad things will be here. Countries like the UK never recovered from their real estate bubble collapsing and they had big, diversified economies... Nothing happens here other than construction, I don't even want to think what happens to a country like this when it's bubble bursts, what happens to it's public services, health care, education, the general mood and feeling of the place.. It scares me.

The complete lack of culture and depth is also an issue of course, sometimes I feel like I don't live in Australia I live in a giant Westfield.

Australia is a very boring country, i lived in Queensland and honestly it's Gods waiting room, i moved to Thailand, the people are so much friendlier and genuine, plus your money goes further, Australia is in steep decline i see no future for young people unless you have rich parents forget it, why work all your life, just to end up living in a cardboard box.

I'm not an economist and I could be wrong but I think most of Australia's problems are due to successive F-wit governments deliberately making housing more expensive on purpose. That's why they don't build social housing. This means that workers have to be paid more to be able to afford rents/mortgages which means that to cover costs, companies have to charge more for their products making everything more expensive.

Cheers for the video. I feel exactly the same as you. I am well and truly over this place.. Nothing has really changed in 250 years. The people are the prisoners & the government & the law enforcers are the prison guards.

It costs like $800k to buy a 3 bed room UNIT in my city if you want to live in a good suburb (not fancy). Houses are getting over a million dollars in blue collar suburbs. You need to be on $200k a year to buy a house and even then its extremly hard.

Australia is sinking - if not sunk. It’s not the country I grew up in… we are swallowed up in between a beautiful landscape yet C O V I D did kill us as a nation. Our ‘government’ is bought by higher powers. Our cost of living is through the roof and our immigration ‘pulse’ is out of control. I hate what we have become. It’s stale, it’s dead. I love my old Australia… but it’s done.
