Canon Power Winder A2 For Canon Film Cameras

Canon film cameras came as standard with a manual film advance mechanism, however, motor drive and power winder accessories could be added to automate this process. This video describes one such accessory, the Canon Power Winder A2. It was introduced alongside the Canon AE1-Program as a dedicated accessory, but it can also be used with the A1, AE1, AV1, AT1 and AL1.

I recently bought a Canon AE-1 Program and almost bought a Canon Winder A. Glad I found this video as I bought an A2 winder afterwards and it's excellent. Superb build quality and makes camera nicer to hold. Only downside is with the batteries in it makes the camera substantially heavier.

This feature came in handy at NFL games in the 70’s and 80’s, several frames in secession. A Professional Sports photographer tool, you have to be from the 20th Century to remember the use. Being old helps.

Will the power winder pull the film back ready for deployment at the end of the exposures ?

a hugely useful feature would be if the winder batteries were sufficient to operate the camera and the 4sr44 could be omitted. is that the case?
