Gotta admit.
This was the best executed video I’ve seen on this T case removal.
I definitely feel confident I know what to do after watching this.
And I’m gonna drain my trans fluid from mine first...lol’s.

do you really need to drop the transmission all the way down onto your exhaust like that?

Watching transmission fluid just flow outward in an attempt to cover everything is mesmerizing. Like it's alive or something. Sorry you had that mishap. Try doing it with a TF-727 transmission from a 'Cuda and forget to drain it first. Simply astounding!

Thank you for this video. This is about the only detailed video I can find on YouTube for the np242 removal. You helped a lot. I'm going to do change the transfer case on my 95 grand Cherokee. It has an np242. And I'm installing a new np242.

HEY!!
@ 7:55, you popped off the transfer case linkage.

@ 8:14...that thick metal plate (with the two access holes for the bolts) on the side of the trans...how did you get the shaft out of there where it goes into the green bushing??? Do you just pop that out with a pry bar as well?

That thing won't come out on mine and it's preventing me from lowering the trans.

Great video Dan. I am in the process of removing the engine of the 2000 XJ. I wanna know if I can pull the engine out with hoist from front with the transmission and transfer case attached. Do I need to have to remove the transfer case or does engine bay has enough room for everything to come out? It seems transfer case is wide but not sure until I do it. Any tip appreciated. The engine hoist has a tilt for adjustable angle.

Planning on doing the same swap on my 01 XJ found a Jeep at local junkyard with an np231 case with an SYE done to it, while doing the swap is there anything special I have to do to my Jeep as far as wiring?

Hey !! when you lower the transmission the engine trims backward! It is right for the engine mounts ?? or they will crack???

Dumb question should the 4wd transfer case be in neutral or the transmission be in neutral when doing this? Or doesn’t matter?

I snapped a cross member bolt while taking my trans out… im watching this to see if 1. Theres a gasket between tcase and transand 2 to see if i can just put my trans in then get my tcase in

I have grand Cherokee 1999 trying to take out my transfer case. Took out all the bolts which connected to the transmission and now the transfer case not coming out. ( Drive shafts are removed and every thing else.) Any idea why is it stuck?

Is that bad to let the transmission hang like that when removing bolts

That's why I don't use torches. I use oil and penetrating fluid because it actually works
